The South Passage
Arena Modifier 🌊
Drag
Everything slows down. Low-scoring games. Overtime is more likely. The Passage pulls you under.
Lore
The South Passage is the second-smallest arena in the league and the most remote on the mainland. It sits on the waterfront of Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, facing the Beagle Channel and, beyond it, Antarctica. Everything at The South Passage is slow. The Drag modifier reduces game speed, lowers shot probabilities, and makes overtime more likely. Le Council's meteorologists believe this is related to the electromagnetic properties of the region. Le Council's metaphysicists believe it's the proximity to The Remote Range in McMurdo. The Undertow play as if they're in no hurry, which is either strategy or inevitability. Games here end 1-0 or go to overtime. There is no in-between.
The Building
Built from stone and weathered timber, low to the ground, pressed against the waterfront as if bracing against the wind. The exterior is grey stone with a dark slate roof pitched against the Patagonian weather. Small windows face the channel. A covered walkway connects the building to the town's main road, necessary because the wind off the water is relentless. Inside, the arena is compact and functional. The seating is four rows deep on all sides—there simply isn't room for more. The ceiling is low, the timber beams dark and heavy. The Almighty Ice surface fills almost the entire interior. There is no luxury here, no spectacle—just ice and cold and the sound of the wind against the walls. Through the narrow windows on the south side, on clear days, you can see across the channel to Tierra del Fuego. On very clear days, you might see further. The South Passage feels like the last building before the end of the world. It might be.
