The Still Strait
Arena Modifier 🧜
Lure
Visiting teams take riskier, more aggressive shots than their stats would suggest. The Strait tempts you.
Lore
The Still Strait is built over water. The Almighty Ice surface sits directly above a channel of the Stockholm archipelago that, since The Almighty Ice appeared, has not moved. The water beneath is perfectly still—no current, no tide, no ripple. Divers sent by Le Council to investigate the channel reported that the water is warm and that they felt 'invited to stay.' They were pulled out after exceeding their dive time by forty minutes without noticing. The Lure modifier appears to affect visiting teams psychologically. They play aggressively, take risks they wouldn't normally take, and seem unable to resist shooting. The Sirens benefit from this. Le Council suspects the building itself is responsible but has not determined how.
The Building
Glass and steel, Scandinavian modernism at its most elegant and its most unnerving. The exterior is a long, low structure of pale concrete and floor-to-ceiling glass panels that reflect the water of the strait below. At certain times of day, you cannot tell where the building ends and the water begins. The entrance is across a bridge—a literal bridge over the still channel—that visitors must cross to enter. Inside, the seating is arranged in a gentle curve, all facing The Almighty Ice, which appears to float on the water visible through transparent floor sections at rink level. The lighting is cool and blue-white, the air temperature is comfortable, and there is a faint sound that might be water or might be breathing. The building is beautiful. Everyone who enters agrees on this. Everyone who enters also agrees that something about it makes them want to stay longer than they intended.
